In the spring, I was busy planting seeds in little pots and containers, hoping for a successful summer of basil, arugula, edible flowers, and even kale to grow on my balcony. The last time I posted here, I was contemplating the fragility of spring, and somehow, a whole season got away from me, and I haven’t posted in a while. The seeds I planted in the spring indeed grew, but then the birds—the real owners of my balcony, or rather, squatters—ate the tops off my arugula and kale, which I’d already put outside to weather.
I headed off to southern Germany for a veteran’s meetup and some recreational therapy with the Wounded Warrior Program. I also stopped in Nuremberg on the way to finally see that famous city. Among other things like eating lots of schnitzel, they took us all over the border region with Austria, and we ascended Germany’s highest peak, the Zugspitze, by cable car and took another one down the other side to Austria.
